How we can help
Poor balance and coordination can leave us unsteady on our feet or possibly experiencing problems with mobility. Due to illness, surgery or ageing, balance can become impaired. The good news is that help is available with physiotherapists who are experts in this field.
Our method
To improve your balance & coordination, your physiotherapist will:
- Devise you an exercise programme to help strengthen your muscles
- Check your balance reaction and give you specific balance exercises
- Review all your joint movements to ensure there is no restriction that is impacting your coordination or balance
- Assess how your home environment could minimise your falls risk
- Advise you if handrails are needed in your home to give you confidence
- Teach you new and safer ways to access your bath, shower, and toilet
- Ensure your bed is of the correct height for getting in and out safely
- Give you exercises for fine motor skills if daily tasks such as eating and writing are difficult
- Review how you mobilise with walking aids and advise you accordingly
