How we can help
While there are so many health benefits to spending time outdoors, it’s not always easy if you have limited mobility or are a wheelchair user. We are dedicated to helping you overcome obstacles and enjoy time in the fresh air.
Our method
To assist you with your outdoor mobility your physiotherapist will:
- Assess the way you walk and devise a suitable treatment plan for you
- Determine which part of your body is weak and in need of strengthening exercises
- Look at your coordination and balance reaction
- Check your joint movement to see if any restriction is impacting your daily mobility and stopping you from getting outside
- Review your walking aids
- Look at your home environment and possible trip hazards for entering and leaving your home
- Advise you on installing handrails by your front/back door to give your more confidence to step outside
- Show you how to negotiate curbs and uneven pavements if you have poor balance
- Look at how you are walking and crossing the road to make it safer for you
- Assess if you have shortness of breath and will advise you how to manage this
