How does it work having a physiotherapist visit you in your own home?
During the booking process with Home Physio Group’s central office, you will be asked a brief history of why you feel you need physiotherapy and about your current condition. Our friendly team in the office will then be able to book you a time with one of our highly skilled and professional physiotherapists. You will receive an email confirmation upon booking including information on the therapist that will be treating you.
Your therapist will come to your home, where they will start with a detailed medical history including all the information regarding your current issue. They will then do a complete assessment and explain things to you as they go along, also answering any questions you may have.
This initial assessment allows the physio to develop a personalised programme just for you, and they will start the new programme during your first appointment.
What can I expect from the assessment?
Always best to wear comfy clothes, that are not too tight. If you are having physio for your lower back, hips or legs, it is helpful if you can wear shorts and a vest top for the assessment. The most important thing is that you are comfortable during the appointment and are able to allow the physio to see the area they are treating.
The physiotherapist will observe you doing some basic movements, lying, sitting or standing. They will check your strength and flexibility too. The tests they will carry out for their assessment are painless but some people could feel some slight discomfort. If you feel pain please let your physiotherapist know, as this will help them to know what other tests are needed to be carried out to find the true root cause of your symptoms.
What does the treatment include?
Physiotherapists carry out a wide range of treatments, for so many conditions, and for this reason there are different approaches to treatment. Some require hands on treatment such as massage and manipulations, whilst other treatments may include exercises and stretches, advice on what equipment may help you, and how to self-manage your symptoms. Each person is different and presents differently, so there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to care.
How will I feel after my initial session?
Occasionally you may be left feeling a little sore, but it is more common to finish your appointment feeling better, with a personalised goal plan ahead.
How many appointments will I need?
There is no answer to this question, as everybody is different, and everybody’s condition is different. There are several factors that may be dependent on how many sessions you will need:
- What part of your body is causing you the pain?
- How painful your injury is?
- How long you have been in pain? Is it a new acute pain or a chronic condition?
- How stringent you are at following your physiotherapy programme?
After your initial appointment with Home Physio Group, your therapist will be able to determine how many sessions you may need in the future, and they will continue to assess your progress each time they see you.
