Menopause is a process where a woman’s ovaries eventually stop producing oestrogen. It is a different process for every woman and can be a difficult time for many. During menopause, it is normal to feel sluggish but exercising during can help relieve stress as well as reduce some of the common symptoms of menopause such as weight gain and a reduction in muscle mass.
Some great exercises that can help you
- Yoga. This is one of the best ways to destress and relax when going through menopause. You might have mood swings and feel low during the menopause period, but yoga is good for refocusing your mind and boosting your confidence while providing some physical activity
- Dancing. Listening to your favourite upbeat tunes whilst doing some cardio to get your heart racing is an effortless form of exercise and will help to boost your mood. There are many different styles of dancing available to choose from and you can do this from the comfort of your own room or join a dance class to get out of the house.
- Walking. This is another easy, non-intense way to burn a few calories whilst also getting some fresh air. You can do this alone or with friends and family anywhere and any time of day. This also helps mentally by giving you time to process your thoughts and reduce irritability.
- Strength Training. Menopause sometimes results in the loss of muscle mass and a good way to combat this is to do high intensity strength training 2-3 times a week to strengthen and rebuild any lost muscle. If you set yourself some personal goals to achieve, you will get immense satisfaction and positivity when you make progress and are able to lift heavier weights.
