Whilst working from home is becoming increasingly common and convenient for most people, there are also several challenges people face such as finding the balance between work and home life. When working from home, people often don’t know when to stop working as there are no physical barriers like working in an office and this often causes people to forget about daily exercise. Daily exercise is important for not only for your physical health but mental health too. Exercise is very important for long term cardiovascular health, improving joint stiffness, maintaining a healthy body weight, and boosting low moods and dealing with stress. Keeping active has also been shown to increase productivity rates in the work environment.
Ways to implement daily exercise when working from home:
- Take regular breaks – Every 30-40 mins make sure you get up from your seat and walk around the house. This is an easy way to get some steps in whilst also rejuvenating your mind.
- Make use of time saved – You should use the time you save by not commuting to and from work to fit in a quick workout or go on a run or walk. There are many great videos on YouTube on workouts you can do at home. Fresh air will also help to wake you up and get the creative juices flowing.
- Invest in a standing desk – This will force you to be more active as you are not in a sedentary position and helps you to be in a proper posture compared to slouching in your chair.
- Dance – One benefit of working from home is the flexibility and freedom you may not necessarily get from an office environment. Use this to your advantage and play your favourite tunes in your breaks and dance your heart out. This is a fun, enjoyable way to implement exercise into your daily routine, boost your heart rate and energy levels!
- Walk while on the phone – When answering calls and meetings that do not require you to show your face, make it a point to walk around while on the call. This will help to fit in some exercise whilst also being productive.
