- Assess your range of movement and determine how your joint swelling impacts your daily functioning
- Examine your mobility and advise on walking aids
- Prescribe suitable exercises
- Look to see if your strength, balance, and coordination is impaired and address this accordingly
- View the furniture in your home and recommend some easy adjustments
- Advise on any suitable gadgets that may help you with activities around your home
- Refer you to an Occupational Therapist if required
- Show you stretches and massage techniques that may help relieve symptoms
- Give you plenty of advice and guidance as understanding your condition is key to recovery
Our top tips to help your swollen & stiff joints
- Keep moving
- Carry out your physiotherapy exercises daily
- Take anti-inflammatory medications
- Use ice packs for 20 minutes at a time
- Have a warm bath or shower if the injury is more chronic
- Consider placing a hot water bottle near the affected site
- Compress the joint with a support
- Elevate your feet if they are affected
